We hope you all have a peaceful and enjoyable Thanksgiving week. Here’s a beautiful message of thanks from Steve, a 2015 participant:
“I can’t bring myself to say I’m thankful for having cancer, not even close. But because of cancer I have a far greater appreciation for many things that I am thankful for.
I’ll always remember a moment when my son was walking me around the hospital after they removed half my left lung 8 years ago. He said “I wish it had be me”; I think he felt that he could have handled it better considering he was a strapping 6’2″, 21 years old in great shape. I quickly gave him a hug, adding that that would have been my greatest nightmare. I’m extremely thankful that it was not my son, my daughter or my wife, but rather me who has the cancer. One of the participants from our Retreat actually has a son who is facing prostate cancer and I my heart goes out to him every day.
I’m also very thankful for so many of my friends who have not for a second shied away but rather have become so much closer and are always keeping me moving a feeling positive about things. And I would be very remiss if I didn’t say how thankful I am to have been invited into the brotherhood of the Reel Recovery fraternity. What a wonderful organization with no agenda other that to help men with cancer. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!”
